Smell your scent materials every day. Write about your scent materials every day. Talk about your scent materials every day. Please understand this; perfumers do not have an excellent sense of smell. So the question is - what makes a perfumer "special"?  

• Perfumers collect hundreds of different essential oils and synthetic materials. 

• Perfumers always think about what an essential oil or synthetic material smells like. 

• Perfumers are always writing about an essential oil or synthetic material to describe what it smells like 

• Perfumers are constantly conversing with other perfumers about what a specific essential oil or synthetic material smells like. 

• Perfumers always relate to essential oils and synthetic materials through personal stories and memories. 

• Perfumers are always classifying their essential oils and synthetic materials into various groups. 

• perfumers are always re-classifying their essential oils and synthetic materials into new and unique groups 

• Perfumers are always trying to describe what is unique about a specific essential oil or synthetic material - we are always trying to use words to convey just how two very similar materials differ from one another.
